Mystery cutter on slings
This is potentially our next yacht. It’s a Norseman 447 and she’s a pretty girl, in excellent condition. Lots of new stuff.
We’ve put an offer on her and we’re still in the process of coming to a final acceptance. We still have to go through a survey and sea trial. That might come later this month.
It’s a jittery time, wondering whether all will go well and what the future holds. But we have done a lot of homework since we sold SV Wendaway.
If and when the deal goes through I’ll write more. In the meantime, the photo to the left is what we can share of our mystery cutter.

Wendaway under spinnaker
Sometime in the near future I hope to hear from the new owner of SV Wendaway, who shortly after buying our boat headed for the Panama Canal. His journey was somewhat late in the season, guaranteeing that he will have to cross the Gulf of Mexico during hurricane season. Godspeed Lille!
Wendy and I are in the midst of boat searching, and are back in Vancouver.
It is cold here and very far from the cruising life. We hope to be back on the water in the fall/winter of 2010.
Bon Voyage Wendaway!

My friend Ross leaves tomorrow morning, back to Canada and his family on Sonora Island. Here is a photo of him crammed into the chain locker aboard SV Wendaway.
Ross operates the Columbia III, a68 foot cruise ship that plies the waters of the Inside Passage off Canada’s Pacific Coast.
He’s a master mariner, former commercial helicopter pilot, and a dear old friend.
I invited him for a two week cruise aboard Wendaway and then forced him into gruelling “crew duties” such as replacing a worn windlass motor. Continue Reading »

Where was SV Interlude?
In my previous posting, On the Spot, I described what went wrong when a wife reported her husband overdue while sailing north along Baja California.
Andrea Scott called the US Coast Guard and told them her husband, Mike Joyce, had failed to send her an agreed-upon position report from his SPOT personal locator beacon. Joyce was single-handing the SV Interlude, a 36′ Catalina heading from Cabo San Lucas and was supposed to check in at Magdalena Bay. No position report was received. Continue Reading »
