Steve Van Slyke warned all of us who were attending his seminar on celestial navigation. “When this session is over you’re going to love your GPS,” he said.

There was a restless stirring among the 15 or so cruisers who were attending at the luxurious club house at Marina Riviera Nayarit. Most everybody attending had brought sextants of various expense and age, but were prepared to invest more time in learning how to use them. And now Steve, of SV Kavenga,  an educator and master navigator (he spent years in the US Navy getting ships from Point A to Point B in difficult circumstances), was letting all know that the going was going to be rough going.
